LocalSend

Free optionOpen sourceLocal

Send files and folders between nearby phones and computers over your local network.

What you can use it for

Send files and folders between nearby phones and computers over your local network.

  • Transfer files between Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS devices.
  • Keep transfers on your local network without uploading to a storage provider.
Workflow coverage and comparison notes

Replace uploading files to Dropbox merely to move them between nearby devices. This covers manual same-network transfers only; it does not replace paid cloud capacity, remote sharing, backup or sync. Dropbox already has a free plan, so no claim is made that basic transfers require payment.

Before you switch

Both devices need LocalSend and a reachable local network; firewalls or network isolation can block discovery. No remote links, continuous cloud sync, offsite backup or Dropbox version history. A firsthand report describes missed subfolders during folder drag-and-drop: check received folders before deleting originals. Capacity and speed depend on your devices and network.

Alternatives to these paid apps

Each comparison covers the workflow described above, rather than every paid feature.
