What you can use it for

Build interactive HTML, CSS and JavaScript prototypes and save them locally in your browser.

  • No usage cap for basic browser prototypes; practical limits are browser memory and device storage.
  • Official docs list project JSON, source ZIP and result HTML; export menu observed, downloaded artifact not inspected.
Workflow coverage and comparison notes

Develop frontend prototypes without publishing their code to a public profile, using local browser persistence. CodePen places private Pens on PRO. Its official downgrade FAQ says users lose the ability to create new private Pens after PRO ends. CodePen already offers public Pens for free. LiveCodes local storage is different from CodePen's access-controlled private cloud sharing. PRO Starter: 8 USD/month-equivalent. Billed annually at $96/year; monthly checkout price not verified. Local browser persistence does not replace access-controlled private cloud sharing, live Webflow injection, asset deployment or collaboration.

Before you switch

Local storage is not cloud backup or authenticated private team sharing; export important work. External CDN resources can make network requests. Optional link sharing transmits code; shortened shared URLs cannot be deleted after creation according to the terms. Public beta; issue review found backend/Node support request #935 and Svelte CDN import problem #910. Scope is basic frontend prototypes. No replacement claim for CodePen's community, PRO asset hosting, deployments or real-time collaboration. Local browser IndexedDB/storage; device/browser dependent. Clearing site data can remove projects. Official docs list project JSON, source ZIP and result HTML; export menu observed, downloaded artifact not inspected. No watermark restriction found for exported prototype code; do not imply branding licence. No API key, paid model, backend or self-hosting required for basic HTML/CSS/JS. Optional external services and self-hosting have separate costs.
