Chat with local models or connected AI providers through an interface you host.

What you can use it for

Chat with local models or connected AI providers through an interface you host.

  • Chat history and switching between local or remote model providers.
  • A documented Ollama route avoids paid inference APIs on your own hardware.
Workflow coverage and comparison notes

Run a self-hosted chat interface with history and local models or separately billed APIs for general drafting, questions and assistant workflows. Replaces an interface/general text-assistant slice only. No included paid models, inference, hosted availability or full ChatGPT, Jasper, TypingMind or Bolter suite.

Before you switch

Requires server/database setup and model configuration. Local inference needs adequate RAM, storage and electricity; models have their own licences. Remote providers charge separately. No included ChatGPT subscription or guaranteed frontier-model quality. Agent, MCP, advanced document and cloud-sync parity is not claimed; the reviewed historical user report encountered agent and MCP issues. Replace the self-configured tool-connected assistant and delegated research-task slice of Bolter. Free MIT web software, but server/database setup, suitable local-model hardware or separately billed model APIs and connected services are required. Local chat support does not guarantee every agent feature with every model. Current scheduled chats are experimental and disabled by default. Not Bolter’s hosted multiplayer messenger, external-agent federation or ready-made reliable blueprint network.

Alternatives to these paid apps

Each comparison covers the workflow described above, rather than every paid feature.
