Workflow coverage and comparison notes
Self-hosted core LLM tracing, prompt management and dataset evaluation. LangSmith has a useful free Developer plan with1seat/5000base traces per month; Plus$39/seat/month plus usage, and hybrid/self-host options require Enterprise. Langfuse is for users accepting self-hosting work to retain their trace data/control capacity without a vendor trace subscription; not a free hosted LangSmith clone.
Before you switch
You operate Langfuse Web/Worker, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Redis/Valkey and blob storage. Servers, storage, backup and LLM inference/evaluator API costs are separate; local hardware/electricity are not supplied. Enterprise add-ons need a paid licence. Docker Compose is described as local/testing without HA or backups; production requires deployment/operations work. No claim of LangSmith deployment, Engine, Fleet or enterprise feature parity. Not hands-on tested by Free Instead.
