Query CSV and Parquet files locally with SQL and save a reusable analytical database.
Query CSV and Parquet files locally with SQL and save a reusable analytical database.
Replace local SQL exploration and aggregation of files on one computer. No managed Databricks cluster, governance, scheduled lakehouse pipelines, model serving or team workspace. Free engine; own hardware/electricity and any remote services are extra. Free open-source in-process analytical database alternative to ClickHouse Cloud. DuckDB runs directly inside client processes (Python, Node, CLI) with vectorized query execution and fast Parquet querying without a dedicated database server. Geared toward single-machine analysis rather than distributed web-scale multi-tenant clusters.
Replaces single-machine file analytics only. Not a managed distributed Spark cluster, shared lakehouse, Unity Catalog, production scheduler or managed ML serving platform. Dataset size and speed depend on your hardware; large jobs need memory/disk planning. Remote storage, cloud compute, hosting, MotherDuck and optional APIs have separate terms and costs. No paid API is required for local files. The check used a tiny fixture, not a performance benchmark.
Each comparison covers the workflow described above, rather than every paid feature.
